YOUTUBE VIDEO BLOGGING IS TRENDING, JUST #ASKGARYVEE

For years I’ve regularly watched YouTube series like “Behind the Brand”, DIY videos such as “How-to tie a neck tie” before a job interview, inspirational Ted Talks and countless keynotes from figures I admire like Gary Vaynerchuk.
It wasn’t until a good friend of mine started dating a prominent video blogger, and eventually launching a “Vlog” his own, that I started looking at YouTube from a different point of view.
Owned by Google (owners of the internet) YouTube is the second most popular search engine — second only to Google!
Different than other social media, YouTube is both a content publishing studio and a distribution medium thanks to its robust sharing capabilities. For marketers, it’s where you should be placing content to engage potential customers — as viewers.
Social media has created a culture of people with short attention spans who suffer from overexposure to content. Because of the inundation of messages status-rich sites like Twitter and Facebook, many now choose to get information through bite sized pieces of content to sort through the mix.
Enter YouTube as social media on steroids, the perfect combination of content and substance for users who want to be illuminated by just pressing “Play”.
In addition being a prominent speaker, and public figure, who reaches hundreds of thousands of people in person annually Gary Vaynerchuk recently launched his own video blog entitled “#AskGaryVee”. The premise, a way to directly connect with and offer value to millions of social media followers of whom Gary is unable to reach in person throughout the year at mega-conferences like SXSW. Instead, Gary’s play on YouTube provides him with powerful distribution channel.

In May, during a trip to New York for a friends wedding, I launched my YouTube video blog called “CarlosGilTV”. There was no business purpose, strategy or objective besides way to show others my personality “in real life” outside of social media.
60 videos in, I want to provide immense value (and purpose) over my next 40 videos so I’m asking my social network, what sort of content would you like to see?
Social media isn’t advertising, it’s relationship building.
