Tree Treasures
Reversing the process of jewellery making
Turning tree seeds into crystallised urban jewellery
The project upcycles natural resources and raises awareness for the beauty of nature around us.
Many tree seeds that are regarded as waste in urban areas. By crystallising the seeds, they gain additional value, visibility and acceptance as jewellery pieces.
Reversing the traditional idea of jewellery craftsmen forcing a shape onto natural stones, I designed a mini collection of 12 jewellery pieces made from treasures of nature overgrown by crystals.
The project upcycles natural resources and raises awareness for the beauty of nature around us. Goal of the collection is to create consciousness for nature in close proximity and craft pieces that let wearers showcase their connection to nature.
By naturally growing crystals we reverse the traditional process of jewellery making which forces stones into man-made shapes.
The success of the idea is based on three factors: merging unusual materials in an aesthetic union, using natural materia prima that can be turned into high value products and crafting a product of growing relevance in modern day society. In today’s world people need to be reminded of the natural beauty around them. The project aims to present them common tree seeds in a new context while staying in line with contemporary aesthetics.
I use innovative materials that are currently not considered luxurious or related to the jewellery sector. By growing a more market accepted element — crystals onto the natural base material, the product will receive more acceptance in the market. At the same time the creation process is a new technique in accessory making. It gives the material importance in the creation process by making it a main actor and creator of the final result. Every piece is unique.
DESIGNED BY NATURE
Wearable Prototypes
Using the unique pieces as jewellery, I made first collection pieces that can be combined with vibrant colours. Giving the pieces a more contemporary and modern touch.
Tree Treasures shall promote the beauty of urban flora while giving inhabitants of the urban jungle the chance to wear a piece of it; showcase their will to keep cities green and clean as well as demand sustainable solutions.
After the creation of these prototypes I am now searching for natural coatings to make the pieces waterproof and durable. If you are interested in exhibiting the project or would like to cooperate in taking the project to the next level, please drop me a line. I will be happy to hear from you.
