After watching The Power of Vulnerability I learned a lot about shame, fear, worthiness, vulnerability, and just how all of them are intertwined with one another. Brené discussed how people who tend to feel excessive amounts of guilt and shame tend to be afraid of being vulnerable with people. Those same people tended to lack connection in their relationships. She also discussed how the only thing that separates people with a strong sense of love and belonging from those who don’t, is worthiness. Brené discussed that the people who were capable of being vulnerable with others had the courage to be “imperfect”. These same people also believed that “what made them vulnerable, made them beautiful”. Overall, this Ted Talk showed me just how critical it is to be vulnerable/learn to be vulnerable so that we can create healthy relationships with others.
I learned a lot from this video about relationships and how important it is to have a good sense of self-worth. I never realized until I watched this video just how relevant this topic is to my own life. Like Brené, I also struggle with being vulnerable and I tend to have a hard time knowing my own self-worth. Brené mentioned that she had to see a therapist so she could work on being more vulnerable with others. I myself also see a therapist for similar reasons. I love that she mentioned therapy in the Ted Talk because it is such an important thing to get involved in. I have found that a therapist is capable of helping you deal with deeper issues that your friends or family may not be able to help you get past. Another thing I learned after watching this video is how important connections with people are. Being able to have a healthy connection with someone is something that takes hard work if you have a low sense of self-worth. Once you take the steps to increase your self-worth and let go of self-doubt and guilt, it becomes easier to make a connection with someone. Which then leads to a person being able to be vulnerable.
I enjoyed numerous things about this Ted Talk but my favorite thing was definitely when Brené mentioned her own experience and struggle with vulnerability. It opened my eyes to just how many other people struggle with the same type of thing that I struggle with. Brené also mentioned the steps she took to change this about herself and learn to grow as a person. I really enjoyed that too.
I feel as if this video can be beneficial for anyone to watch because of how it educates us on the topic of vulnerability and how it relates to so many other aspects of our lives. This video can be especially beneficial to people who struggle with vulnerability issues themselves. However, anyone who watches this video can learn something from it because we all have had problems being vulnerable at least once in our lives. Not only is this video informative, but it is also inspiring. It is a must-watch for everybody, no matter who you are or what you’re interested in.
