I‘m always on the hunt for skin care ingredients that really work, aren’t you? Honey, that simple product you probably have in your kitchen cupboard right now, is an ancient ingredient that’s really matchless when it comes to making skin look magnificent.

Honey (Summer’s nectar) along with related beeswax, bee pollen, and propolis are powerful selfcare ingredients everyone should know about.

Raw honey is the best form of the ingredient because it’s packed with elements that naturally balance the bacteria on your skin. This makes it great for acne, eczema, and inflammation associated with pollution, airborn mold, and pollen. If you want to lessen your allergy symptoms in the Springtime, eat local honey, it’ll help your immune system naturally overcome the inflammation associated with allergic reactions to pollen.

Honey speeds up your skin cells’ healing processes and has been found to be so effective at healing wounds quickly that it’s now used by doctors in clinical settings. Of course, the Egyptians knew this 1000’s of years ago and regularly used honey to dress wounds long before antibiotics were even a concept.

Raw honey is a natural exfoliator — apply it to clean skin to help remove dry, dull skin. Through this process of eliminating dead skin cells, skin looks brighter and is able to absorb serums much more readily. Honey is also great as a treatment for fading scars when applied regularly.

Beeswax, likewise, can create a protective layer on the skin. It’s also a humectant, which means that it attracts water like gangbusters. Both of these qualities can help the skin stay hydrated. Beeswax also works as a natural exfoliator, ideal for sloughing away dead skin cells.

Beeswax is the substance that bees create to form the structure of a honeycomb. Bees convert nectar they collect into wax, building honeycombs to store their honey. Ten pounds of honey produces one pound of wax.
