Seinfeld Food Locations | Daniel E Carpenter Shares With You.
In true Seinfeld style, I (Daniel E Carpenter) decided to write this article in the third person just like George in “The Pool Guy” where he famously declares out loud … “George is getting upset.”
George picked up this style of talking about himself from Elaine’s then boyfriend, Jimmy.
So with that in mind, Daniel E Carpenter is getting excited to share these Seinfeld featured locations for eating. Whether a full blown meal or just a soup (or is soup a meal?) try some of the foodiest locations featured in the famous hit series.
Monks Cafe: Just about every episode
Daniel is happy to start with Tom’s Restaurant, of course, this is the facade of the fictional ‘Monk’s Café’ — the gang’s favorite hangout. Nearly every plot and subplot is played out at least a little in Monks.
“The Maid” — Locations: Famous Original Ray’s Pizza
Kramer gets lost in lower East Side and ends up phoning Jerry to come find him.. Kramer got a bit confused here saying he can see a “Ray’s Pizzas” from where he is phoning. “Is that Famous Ray’s or a Famous Original Ray’s Pizza,” asks Jerry.
At that time there was a ‘Famous Original Ray’s Pizza‘ at 195 East Houston Street which would have been visible from Kramer’s view, but, sadly it closed down in 2015.
“It’s just Original, Jerry!” Daniel would never get lost in Manhattan. Not even Lower East Side.
“The Soup Nazi” — Location ‘The Original SoupMan’
Daniel loves The Soup Nazi episode almost as much as he loves ‘The Strongbox’ (Daniel’s favorite episode ever and p;ossibley the best comedy sketch written) where Kramer kills his neighbor’s parrot with a key to his strongbox.
Anyway, Daniel E Carpenter digresses, “The Soup Nazi” location is based on a real soup stand — originally named Soup Kitchen International, recently resurrected as The Original SoupMan — at 259A W. 55 St.
Today, real proprietor Al Yeganeh doesn’t like being referred to as “the Soup Nazi.”
Daniel is not surprised but is still a little disappointed.
“The Mango” — Location: La Boîte En Bois –
Daniel was boith very entertained and mad with George in this episiode where he took his girlfriend Karen to La Boite en Bois for dinner. She ordered the risotto, and her reaction was post orgasmic
George then somehow gets her into bed (how does he get such good looking women?) and she has a loud and wonderful time. However, George being George thinks she faked and then gets kicked out of bed for insulting her. \
She hadn’t been faking.
Daniel thinks “nuts” and feels sorry for George.
La Boite en Bois is located at 75 West 68th Street
“The Rye” — Location: Royale Kosher Bake Shop (Now closed RIP)
Jerry loves his Rye bread from Schnitzer’s, and so he steals one from an old lady when she refuses to sell. He even offers 50 bucks, but no go.
The real place was called Royale Kosher Bake Shop. It’s now closed. The shop was located at 237 West 72nd Street for you buffs out there.
Daniel E Carpenter rues the lost Rye bread opportunity nearly as much as Jerry.
“The Summer Of George” — Location: Sardi’s
Daniel E Carpenter loves Kramer’s character, so Daniel is eager to share with you this reminder.
This is the episode where Kramer “won” a Tony Award accidentally while working as a seat filler.
Kramer then ends up firing Raquel Welch at Sardi’s (Sardi ’s is at 234 West 44th Street) from her own Broadway show. Of course with no authority whatsoever.
“The Movie” — Location: Gray’s Papaya (Papaya King).
The four all try to meet up to watch a movie and of course this all ends in chaos. Kramer gets the munchies for a hot dog from Papaya King which is allegedly Gray’s Papaya, at Amsterdam Avenue and West 72nd Street).
Now, if you want to make sure you have the right location, make sure to go to a real Papaya King at 179 E. 86th St. Nobody has clearly defined which one it is. So do both.
Daniel Loves to be thorough.
“The Strike” — Location: H&H Bagels
Kramer returns to work after a prolonged strike of 12 years. Of course, they do not even recognize him.
Daniel E Carpenter is a big bagel fan and so had to try one out. Yessir.
H&H Bagels, Broadway and 80th Street (I heard it was closed? Daniel’s getting angry).
“The Soup” — Location: Mendy’s
More soup related humor. Very annoying, fellow comedian Kenny Bania somehow talks Jerry into buying him a meal at Mendy’s.
Annoyingly Bania orders only soup, which he says doesn’t qualify as a meal. So Jerry is forced to replay the whole sorry affair.
Daniel E Carpenter liked to share his foodie guide to Seinfeld locations. Daniel hopes you enjoyed it too.
