The Top Movies for 2015

In what is gearing up to be a phenomenal year in cinema. 2015 will have plenty to offer movie fans from all genres. There are sequels galore and new entries into franchise films that are going to get fans jumping out of their skin. Let’s review what the next year ahead with just some of the amazing offerings from cinemas jostling for our hard earned cash.

JANUARY — Mortdecai, Escobar: Paradise Lost, Paddington

Kicking things off big-time right from the get go is the newest Johnny Depp film Mortdecai, about Mi5 spy Charlie Mortdecai who must travel the world in a race to recover a stolen painting. The film stars Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor and Paul Bettany.
Benecio Del Torro is next, in a roll he was born to play, that of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. The film centres on a young surfer who falls in love with a beautiful young Colombian girl. Everything goes well until he meets her uncle Pablo.
Last on the list for January is the old beloved Paddington bear stories finally getting a film release and coming to life to entertain a younger generation in full 3D glory.

MARCH — Cinderella, Furious 7

Directed by the heavy-weight and accomplished filmmaker Kenneth Branaugh — the film is given immediate credibility to what could have been a disastrous attempt at bringing the beloved children’s fairytale to life on the big screen. Aided by a great cast — Helena Bonham Carter (Fairy Godmother), Cate Blanchett (Lady Tremaine), Lily James (Cinderella), Stellan Skarsgard (Arch Grand Duke), this new Disney production could do really well and capitalize on the success of the live action Alice in Wonderland before it.
The Fast and the Furious franchise also gets its latest sequel in Furious 7 — it will be interesting to see how they will implement the death of star Paul Walker into the story.
MAY — Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road,

One of the MOST anticipated films of 2015 comes our way May 1st, 2015 — The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Joss Whedon’s amazing job at directing the first Avengers film has led to comic book fanboy uproar for the next installment. Marvel have been keeping fans entertained with their ‘Phases’, and heads into the next Phase with many more superhero films in 2015. A stellar cast head up the new adventure joined by Aaron Johnson (Quicksilver), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Thomas Kretschmann (Baron von Strucker), Paul Bettany (Vision) and James Spader (Ultron).
Another major blockbuster and fanboy teaser will be the new Mad Max chapter entitled, Fury Road. Replacing the role of Max made iconic by Mel Gibson, is Tom Hardy. The film will be directed by George Miller and features Charlize Theron in a lead role as well with rumors of Mel Gibson making a cameo appearance.

JUNE — Ted 2, Jurassic World

The return of everyone’s favorite trash-talking, foul-mouthed teddy bear returns in June, with the new chapter of the Jurassic Park franchise heading our way in the form of Jurassic World starring Chris Pratt.

JULY — Terminator: Genisys, Ant-Man, Minions, Pan, Poltergeist

July starts off with a big bang with the much anticipated new Terminator film coming right on the 1st of July.
Marvel’s next step and next superhero is introduced in the form of Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas.
The loveable Minions from Despicable Me make their appearance in a solo film all based on their very own adventures.
Lastly fans of the old 1982 Poltergeist film can look forward to a remake which has been promised to be a much darker take on the original.

AUGUST — Fantastic Four, The Man From U.N.C.L.E, Crouching Dragon Hidden Tiger 2

Guy Ritchie’s new project comes to us in the form of espionage team U.N.C.L.E. The 60’s series gets refurbished, and receives Ritchie unmistaken gritty treatment for a 2015 release.
A very anticipated sequel comes our way from Ren Yu-Ping which continues on from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
As far as reboot’s go, the new Fantastic Four aims to set straight the failure that was the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four movies. Set in the same universe as the X-Men franchise, it would be interesting to see if the studio follows Marvel’s winning example in trying to create integration between these films as well.

NOVEMBER — Hunger Games: Mocking Jay part.2, Spectre, Peanuts

The latest Peanuts film will be a 3D animated story that still tries to hold true to the original comic strip’s animation.
The second part to the Hunger Games: Mocking Jay story arc comes our way in November, and although really eagerly awaited, is not as much anticipated as the new Bond fim.
Spectre is the latest in the James Bond franchise and continues from the startling events of the Skyfall story. This 24th Bond film will feature a stellar cast comprised of Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Dave Bautista and Ben Wishaw.

DECEMBER — The Revenant, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mission Impossible V

The tight-lipped new Mission Impossible film comes our way with no tentative title or plot synopsis — seeming as though the producers are taking their spy story-telling very seriously on this one.
An intriguing film comes our way at the end of the year — The Revenant. The film explores the true story of Hugh Glass, the 19th century fur trapper that gets mauled by a grizzly bear and is supposed to be buried once he dies. Instead his company men, rob him and leave him to die alone in the wilderness. Glass actually survives the ordeal and treks across 350 miles of wilderness, driven by sheer will and the desire for revenge. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy and Will Poulter. The story is based on the novel by Michael Punke, which is in turn based on the true 1823 events.
The superb year in cinema ends with a new chapter in the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This installment will be directed by JJ Abrams, and judging by his successful reboot of the Star Wars franchise, this is set to be the film of the year for 2015. Best of all, fans of the franchise will be extremely satisfied to see many of the original cast returning to reprise their roles from the original and iconic 80’s films. Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and others all return to ‘awaken’ the franchise once more!
With such exciting big-screen adventures on the way, movie fans better start saving up now to view all their favorite flicks on the big screen. Of course, if you play online lottery, there’s no need to save up and your film-going year ahead will be taken care of in spades.
