I don’t know if I agree that she did everything she could in her situation re: rent costs. I think she could’ve tried harder to find a roommate. As an NYC-based person, I’m very happy to report I pay under $1,000/mo for rent but — I live in Queens! I’ve had a revolving cast of roommates in my 3-BR apt! It always takes work to find the right living situation, but I feel it’s very necessary work. You ask around, scour Craigslist, reach out to your social network, friends of friends, etc. It seemed like she had one roommate option and it fell through and that was that?
