Under the hood Citationsy uses CSL-JSON to convert the references back and forth into the different styles. When citing an article on a website I scrape any metadata I can find on the page — micro meta tags, og tags, etc. with a bunch of custom code for specific site — and then turn it into CSL-JSON for further use.
