Cerebral palsy is also known as CP. It is a non-progressive collection of disorder caused by abnormal development of the brain or some injuries in the brain during, before and after the birth of an infant. Cerebral palsy is a motor disability condition which affects the ability of movement, body balance and posture. When parents and family of children or patient hear first time about cerebral palsy then they want to know more.

Causes of Cerebral Palsy

There are various causes of cerebral palsy. Some causes of cerebral palsy include bleeding in the brain, infections in the brain which includes meningitis or encephalitis, seizure at birth or in the first month after delivery. There is a certain genetic condition which may also affect children and much more. In some cases health care provider unable to determine the cause of a cerebral palsy in a child. The beginning of cerebral palsy is diagnosed primarily based on the physical findings. Cerebral palsy diagnosis is related to some problem with the brain and some injury that happen to the brain or some abnormality with how or difference in how the brain was formed. CP is a permanent condition but it’s not progressive that means the brain damage can’t be reserved but it won’t get worse but abnormal muscle tone or motor control. can shorten muscles deform bones early intervention and appropriate treatment can help ease symptoms and improve a child’s ability. The injury that occurs early in the life can cause effects on many different functions for the person so that could be communication.

There are many problems faced by children affected with cerebral palsy. They feel problem in eating, crawling, seizers, learning and many more. So the all of those things can be present or may be only a few of them an average of one in 500 children in the United State.

Types of cerebral palsy

There are different types of cerebral palsy, depending on which part of the brain is affected. A person has mild cerebral palsy or may have a more form of cerebral palsy. Spastic cerebral palsy is the most common type of cerebral palsy in which 70% to 80% of children affected with spastic cerebral palsy. It is caused by the damage to the cerebral cortex. It causes stiffness, rigidity, and tone in muscles. It is also called as Spasticity. Spastic cerebral palsy also classified on different parts depending upon the affected parts or limb. If only one limb of the body is affected it is known as monoplegic. When two limbs of the body affected on the same side either right or left including one leg or one hand then it is known as hemiplegic cerebral palsy. When two limbs of affected on the body either both hands or both legs are known as diplegic spastic cerebral palsy. In triplegic cerebral palsy three limbs of the body affected. Quadriplegic spastic cerebral palsy is a most serious type of cerebral palsy in which both legs or both arms are affected. In this type of cerebral palsy child are unable to sit, walk, and stand properly.

Dyskinetic cerebral palsy is caused by damage to the basal ganglia which causes uncontrollable movements damage to the cerebellum causes a form of CP called ataxic cerebral palsy. Ataxic cerebral palsy causes poor balance and problems with coordination. Mix cerebral palsy is a combination of two and more types of cerebral palsy. It associated with damage to multiple areas of the brain.
