5 Ways a Rough Life Makes You a Better Business Person

1. Stress is your old friend

Business is tough. The ups and downs of it are brutal. When things get hairy, some people might just give in. Not you. You’ve met stress before, and you guys are buddies. You still feel stress like a normal person of course, but man do you know how to deal with it.

2. You’re resourceful

You’ve been in tight binds before, and you’re no stranger to having your back against the wall. So when it comes time to get out of a tricky situation, you’re pretty good at pulling rabbits out of your hat, much to the awe of everyone else. You’ve done it before, and you’ll do it again, and again, and again.

3. You have the best stories

My first entrepreneurship experience was when I was 7 years old, selling chocolates at the homeless shelter where I lived. The only people who would buy my chocolates were other homeless people. They really didn’t have much money, but they gave up a little of it just to see me smile. Every time I’m questioning humanity, I think about that, and it keeps me trudging forward towards making the world a better place. Enough said.

4. People respect you

People see something in your eyes that tells them you’ve seen things. Whether you’ve got wisdom, calm, or street smarts, it shows, and people pick up on it unconsciously. They trust you and know that you’ve got this handled, and that makes being a leader a lot easier.

5. You’re unstoppable

You’ve made it through so much to get to where you are today. You know what it’s like for things to be bad, and you are extremely motivated not to repeat history. There’s no way a few setbacks are going to stop you from reaching your goal. You’ve got your eyes on the prize, and you will bulldoze your way there if you have to, because you are a freaking badass.
