Enpass 5.0.1: A Free alternative to 1Password is also a robust Password Manager
With an ever growing size of the Internet and Internet accounts and after hearing those scary Password hack scandals, now days it is not wise to depends on a single password for all accounts. That’s why Password managers come to rescue, Just remember a single Master password and you are done. There are two kinds of Password manager in the market, One with one time payments, like 1Password and another with yearly subscription, in which you have to pay a fixed amount every year in order to continue use it, like Lastpass and Dashlane.
1Password is currently the industry leader in the Password manager app and most costly also. As of now a single license of 1Password cost around 69$. In alternative of 1Password two years back, I discovered Enpass, A free Password manager for Mac and also available for all major platforms. In Last two years Enpass gets regular feature updates and hence grow into a fully featured and Robust Password manager with real time sync, Auto fill, Password audit and many more. So, If you are looking for a Free as well as a fully functional Password manager then Enpass could be an answer.
Getting Started
Like many other Password manager in Enpass at First launch you have to create a Master password. The user interface of the app is clean. App consist of typical three vertical sections, right sidebar consist of categories and folder list which lets you to short your respective password, middle section is where you can find a list of all stored password and the left side is used to show the details for a particular item.
Top task bar consists of four buttons i.e Lock Button lets you lock the app, Create New button lets you to create a new password entity, a manual sync button and a button generate custom strong password. Task bar also contains a search bar to search within the app. Clicking on Create a new button gives you a plenty of predefined formats to create a secure password entity which includes Credit card, secure notes, Bank Accounts, FTP accounts and many more… and In case you not satisfied with these predefined formats you can even add custom field to the password entity to suit your needs.

Enpass gives you plenty of options to organize passwords, There are eight different categories in which you can organize your password. In addition to Categories you can even create Folders to organize the password. Folders can be nested into each other,. Although there is no any option to arrange folders using drag and drop.

If you are using any different Password manager and want’s to switch to Enpass, The Import feature of Enpass makes it easier by supporting password database import from more than 25 applications and also you can export Enpass data and save it to disk.
Auto fill
Support for auto fill using a browser extension makes the browsing experience better by auto filling the required content as we don’t have to manually copy and paste username and password or any required field from password manager.
Recently Enpass launched the browser extension for Safari, Chrome and Firefox makes it easier to fill forms without opening the app itself. Although browser extension doesn’t support if you have downloaded the app from the app store because of Apple sandboxing and app restriction policy. Enpass Password Audit feature scans the complete database and help us to identify if any, same password is being used by different accounts. Password audit feature also helps to identify how old passwords are, this helps in case some user prefer to change password at regular interval.
Syncs and Cross Platform
Enpass is a truly cross platform app and is available for Windows (both Phone and Desktop), iOS, Mac, Android and Linux. Mobile version of the application is also free to use, although the free version of mobile app will sync only 20 entities, for complete sync you have to purchase one time using in-app purchase. Where as Desktop app is completely free. Enpass data can be synced using any major cloud platform service, including iCloud, Dropbox and Google Drive. I am using Dropbox for syncing and I felt no issue with syncing.

I am using Enpass from last two years, in these year Enpass evolved a lot to become a powerful Password manager. Enpass team is keep adding regular and timely updates with new features. Browser Extension and Password audit are an examples of it. I really recommend Enpass to anyone who is looking for a free cross platform Robust Password manager.
