We are currently being under served by the voluntary carbon markets. Despite their intent, they present many issues, including high intermediation, complex verification mechanisms, and confusing quality signals. But most importantly, these markets are failing due to severe inaccessibility and low innovation, which for the future, among other things, brings risks of demand overwhelming an undeveloped system.

However, even with these failings, the carbon markets are still one of the most promising mechanisms to address climate change, all we need are the right innovations…

Blockchain and cryptocurrency has presented a unique opportunity to develop these innovations, a nexus identified by a growing number of projects, each of which are bringing their own value to the market. This rapidly developing movement to use crypto as a method of streamlining the carbon markets and aligning financial incentives with environmental welfare, gives a sense of hope that together we can overcome their problems and make real impact. But still we see fragmentation, so Changeblock looks to the future.

Everyone has a preference on what areas of environmental conservation matter most to them, so the Changeblock marketplace will give every user the power to choose how they want to make that difference.

With the Changeblock marketplace you will be able to:

Discover, learn about and purchase eco-crypto assets which are not yet available on major exchanges. You will be able to use a debit card or crypto for payments. This means no more complicated layer two swaps or high gas fees on a decentralised exchange to purchase your favorite eco-crypto assets. Speaking of which, the marketplace will host a wide range of existing popular eco-crypto assets, as well as exciting new ones, all of which will help the environment. As an added feature, holders of these assets will be able to use them in an offsetting process if desired, retiring them to contribute to CO2 removal, in turn increasing their personal offset score (Tokens will be added to the platform as soon as possible).

Calculate your carbon footprint based on your diet, shopping habits, transport use, and more. You will be able to see your footprint compared to those in your location, as well as in the wider Changeblock community. We will also be adding a reward system for top offsetters and for users who reach offsetting milestones (did someone say crypto rewards 👀).

The marketplace will facilitate the easy contribution to environmental projects to reduce your footprint. A user of our platform will be able to browse from a selection of offsetting projects and in one click, view its information, provenance, story and then purchase it. In the future, users might wish to purchase in order to hold the asset and speculate on market prices, but for now, a purchase is limited to a donation to the project of your choice to reduce your carbon footprint.

Changeblock is paving the way in the emerging world of blockchain environmentalism and has curated an eco-system that gives access to the climate markets for everyone, as well as providing an unparalleled experience. We will soon be releasing an early version of the marketplace to a select group of beta testers.
