Why Do I Feel Cold When I Meditate
And what to do about it!
Changing temperatures is one of the most common phenomena recorded during the meditation process. I would guess that 85% of my clients have experienced feeling cold during meditation at least once since starting the practice.
There is a reason the stereotype of a meditator is someone with a blanket wrapped around them in the Indian sun or a monk shirtless in snow. Unlike Tibetan monks, who have been known to control their body temperature in meditation, effortless meditation relinquishes control.
This means temperature change unfolds as an automatic response rather than a conscious decision which can leave us wondering why.
There are so many reasons why this automatic process occurs. It’s hard to give just one answer to why you are feeling cold in meditation, but here are some possible culprits.
Stress Release and Decrease in Temperature
The number one theory is stress release. When the body releases stress and switches off the fight or flight response, it often also switches our internal temperature gauge.
