The “R” Word

What made your heart sing in 2015? How do you plan to make it sing in the new year?

It’s the last day of 2015.

Wow, even writing that seems strange to me. Does reading it feel strange to you? It appears so permanent. So real. Sometimes I think it is hard for our human brains to wrap our minds around the fact that things change — and things change quickly.

Today, the “R” word that brings so many mixed feelings to the surface is probably the main topic of discussion. New Years Resolutions.

According to our friend google, a resolution is defined as a firm decision to do or not do something. A resolution is the act of solving a problem.

But how can we make a firm decision to change something without examining what made us unhappy or unsettled in 2015? How can we resolve a problem without pin-pointing what that problem is? Starting new doesn’t mean forgetting the old. The past is a stepping stone, a foundation.

For these reasons, on this last day in 2015, I invite you to use a different “R” word. Reflection.

What made your heart sing in 2015? And how will you make it sing in the new year?
