I find that this is what happens to anyone who shares their political beliefs online. The nature of the political discourse in comment threads will often take on that “troll” vibe, and I feel like it’s the nature of the beast these days, meaning that I don’t take those threads to be the pulse of intelligent conversation in our society, even though it may seem like that’s how the majority of people act.
That said, comment trolls will focus on tearing you down for things other than what reasons you have for backing a candidate.
You can look at the backlash that Richard Dreyfus got to see that she wasn’t targeted for being a woman, rather she was targeted for having a perceived political opinion. Simple as that. Being a woman was just the simplest thing to point out, and for trolls, easy and fast is best
