Marcin – Great question. My experiences so far and others reported to me have been really positive with team members being very open with each other.
There can be a little resistance (generally through omission) to certain sections. For example, the ambition section didn’t work so well so it’s been replaced by a question about what you want to get out of this project.
The section on ‘I’ve got some stuff going on’ can also divide opinion. Where do you draw the line between extraneous circumstances that are keeping you from being present and just “life” that everyone is dealing with? Do you need to draw a line?
I’ve found that setting an example by presenting first and setting the bar for openness and transparency works well. It’s quite an introspective exercise and not everyone is used to that. I find people often iterate as the session goes on, recognising bits of themselves in other people’s ways of working and adding that in.
Thinking out loud – It’s one of those things where you’re opening yourself up to people you don’t know very well, you worry about being criticised or not fitting in. I wonder if doing a drawing exercise or something similar to create that vulnerability before hand would help.
