I appreciate your firsthand insight. While I can’t comment on specific infrastructure/technical capabilities of Alibaba (or Baidu), I could see why you would think this way just based on Alibaba’s sketchy core platform. However, I do think they would be resourceful enough to support Lyft after acquisition. They already have close relationships with Lyft management and undoubtedly a deep understanding of operations from primary financings. In addition, I would imagine this to be the type of acquisition with very little integration…Lyft would be allowed to operate independently and most of its focus would still be in the U.S. (check out my explanation on Alibaba maneuvering cash to the U.S.).
