I’m so glad to hear I’m not the only one who feels this way. 360 is the tip of the spear, an relatively easy low bandwith solution for mobile, but it’s not really full digital immersion with freedom of movement and interaction. A true multiplayer photo real virtual world is wildly bandwidth intensive. That kind of “free roam” warehouse scale VR is being done in public places, and it quite amazing, but it will be some time before an illusion like that can be had at home (see my post(s) on public space VR here). I my role as Forbes’ VR and AR contributor I get to try everything and meet everyone (I still have a lot of people to go, yet ;) We are in the early days of a paradigm shift that will be as tectonic as the smartphone. Today high end home VR is expensive and complicated, but that will change. I’m kicking off the consumer track at AWE on Friday morning, giving a broad overview of consumer VR/AR today, and my views of the future. Here’s my ppt
