Lucy Maud Montgomery: One of Canada’s Most Well-Known Authors
Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, is best known for writing the novel, ‘Anne of Green Gables’. The book has enchanted readers worldwide for more than a century. The book has been so popular, that it has been made into several film adaptations, as well as a recent Netflix show (‘Anne with an E’). Montgomery’s books have topped bestseller lists, and sold millions of copies. The author wrote more than twenty books, but her ‘Anne of Green Gables’ book is usually the first book that comes to mind when readers think of the author.
Lucy Maud Montgomery’s life is an interesting one. Born and raised in the small province of Prince Edward Island, she went through a great deal of grief and loss, after losing her mother — and moving in with relatives. Through everything she went through, Montgomery had her writing. She endured depression, moving to Ontario, the loss of family members and loved ones, and so much more. Montgomery used some of her experiences for her writing. Her work lives on, long after her death.
Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30, 1874, in Clifton, Prince Edward Island. She was the daughter of Hugh John Montgomery, and Clara Woolner Macneill Montgomery. After her mother died of tuberculosis, when Lucy was only twenty-one months old, her father sent her to live with her maternal grandparents.
