The Horrifying Kidnap and Murder of Chester Poage

Nineteen-year-old Chester Poage had been kidnapped and murdered in 2000, by three assailants. Two were put on death row, and the other got a life sentence.

Nineteen-year-old Chester Allan Poage was a regular small-town guy who was close with his mother, and sister, and was taking communications classes, and had dreams of working with electronics. Things were going well for him. That is, until Poage was kidnapped, tortured, and eventually murdered in a grisly fashion. The worst part, was that the three murderers were Poage’s friends — who he had invited over that evening to play video games.

Chester Allan Poage was born on July 4, 1980, in Norton County, Kansas. His younger sister, Samantha, was born two years later. Chester had been the son of Dottie, and David Poage. He’d gotten his name because both parents were fond of Western movies, and chosen the name of a character they both liked. Some of the couple’s relatives became upset by their decision, believing it was better if they chose the traditional route of picking a family name. But the couple were adamant that they were keeping their son’s name as Chester.

As a child, Chester wasn’t too fond of his given name, because other kids often teased him about it. He told his mother that he would prefer to go by his middle name, ‘Allan’. And so, he often went by his middle name instead.
