The Strange Disappearance of Susan Walsh

The 1996 disappearance of investigative journalist Susan Walsh, perturbed a great deal of people. Her story had made headlines at the time, because of the many theories surrounding her disappearance. Some of these theories were unusual, bordering on outlandish. Russian spies, and an underground cult of vampires in NYC were some of the theories surrounding Walsh’s disappearance. This was because Walsh had been a writer for various publications, and her stories featured a great deal of these vampires, and Russian immigrants who turned into Gogo dancers, or exotic dancers for clubs, and the Russian mafia. The media ran with these theories, as the authorities tried to get to the bottom of Walsh’s missing persons case.

She had been born as Susan Young, on February 18, 1960, in Wayne, New Jersey. Susan had been the daughter of Floyd Merchant. She had come from a broken home. From a very young age, Susan knew that she wanted to be a writer — specifically interested in poetry. In 1984, Susan married Mark Walsh (he was the brother of musician Joe Walsh). The couple had a son together in 1985, and named him David.

Susan Walsh disappeared on July 16, 1996, in Nutley, New Jersey. She had left her apartment complex briefly, to go run some errands and make a phone call from the payphone across the street. Susan lived in the apartment with her son, while her estranged husband, Mark, lived in the unit below them.
