Prop Builds: “The Force Awakens” Lightsaber

This was originally posted in 2016 to the blog on my site, but I’m (slowly) migrating everything over to Medium. Enjoy.


So, I saw the new Star Wars movie. When I got home afterwards, I did what any sensible person would do and went straight to the internet to buy a lightsaber. I mean, what else was I supposed to do?

Step 1: Acquire a saber hilt. Take a snapchat of it and send it to everyone you know.

Step 2: Disassemble the saber and prepare it for the install. The notable parts I used are:

  • Tri-Cree XP-E2 LED. Colors: Royal Blue/Royal Blue/White
  • Nano Biscotte V3 Soundboard

Step 3: Assemble the LED module and heatsink, then mount it inside the saber.

Next, it was just a matter of assembling and installing the remaining electronics, including the soundboard, recharge port, speaker, and battery.

I watered down hours of work and many complications into one simple step. Wow!
