Talking to a Nonprofit Fundraiser About How to Make Effective Charitable Donations
Nicole Dieker

One more thing — even though charity and nonprofit organization are technically interchangeable, I and other colleagues I’ve worked with in the past tend to cringe when we here the word charity. The word has a connotation of “asking for handouts.” More of a “give to charity,” because it’s a good thing to do, while in reality a donation should be making an investment in an organization that will take your investment and achieve a certain outcome or impact as a result of your investment.

It is semantics, but I don’t believe I’m the only nonprofit professional that feels this way.
