Is Bellafill Right For You? Natural Looking Results That Can Last Years
In general, dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face. As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow’s feet become more visible. Other factors that affect the facial skin can include sun exposure, lifestyle, smoking and heredity.
I have had great success using fillers to restore facial volume and fullness, plump thin lips, soften facial creases and wrinkles and improve the appearance of scars. There are also many different types of facial fillers and each filler works in a slightly different way with varying results, such as Juvederm, Perlane, Restylane, etc.
Patients love these fillers and the natural-looking results they achieve and I continue to use them in my practice. However, most fillers last 6–12 months and some patients want a more permanent solution.
When Bellafill first received FDA approval in 2006, it sought to solve that problem. The collagen filler contains microspheres that instantly smooth nasolabial folds (smile lines). It also works to support the body’s natural collagen production for longer lasting results.
In September 2015 Suneva Medical Inc. announced the results of a five year study — the largest and longest prospective dermal filler study ever conducted — that Bellafill is the only FDA approved dermal filler with demonstrated safety and effectiveness through five years. Over 1,000 patients in the U.S participated in the study. No treatment-related serious adverse events (SAEs) or unanticipated adverse events were noted. According to the study, 83% of patients treated with Bellafill® were still “satisfied” to “very satisfied” with their results at the conclusion of the five year study.
I think this is all great news and my advice is this: If you’re looking for a permanent solution I always recommend you try temporary dermal fillers first before moving on to Bellafill. The best candidates for Bellafill are those that have already tried temporary fillers and are sure that they want a permanent change. It is best for filling deeper lines, rather than areas with thinner skin, such as ‘crow’s feet’ lines around the eyes.
Before the injection, you will require an allergy test; only those who are not allergic to bovine collagen can undergo injections. However, most adults in good overall health can get dermal filler injections.
