Relative Experience of Sleep Routines and Marathons in Honor of the Imminent 24 Hour Celebration of Art.

Bilal’s adult sleeping habits were formed in college — for the past 20 years he has been able to function on no more than 4–6 hours of sleep per night as long as every few months he has a night where he gets 10–12 hours. He is pretty sure this is how he survived the first three months of his son’s life.

In elementary school, Dan frequented roller rink lock-ins. There was never a lock-in where someone didn’t end up calling home in tears, begging to be let out.

Kurt likes to be in or around water when the sun is coming up or going down. It feels more like a mutual conversation that way.

Leah and Trevor have run a marathon together. About mile 7, when he realized his toe nails MIGHT fall off, he stopped mid race and exclaimed “Why would anyone DO this?!”. They continued on and finished the race in 4 hours and 28 minutes. Leah did not hear from Trevor for 3 days after that.

Because it was Italy, nearly every cafe doubled as a bar. In the morning, Margaret and her friend Danny chased their espressos with a shot.

When Lily stays up all night, at some point after sun-up, water starts to leak from her eyes, but she isn’t crying.

Kirsten sleeps on her side with her thumbs tucked into fists and her head cocked all the way back, facing the headboard. She thinks that this was probably her favorite position in the womb (when everything was warm and quiet).

It is a common misconception that bears hibernate during the winter. While bears tend to slow down during the winter, they are not true hibernators. Black bears, Grizzly bears and Brown bears do go into a deep sleep during the winter months, known as torpor…..”MYTH BUSTED!” Ida shouted, outloud, and to no one in particular.

Malic must sleep in a blindfild, regardless of how dark it is in the room. Malic says it makes them feel safe. Malic’s grrrlfriend says it makes them look like a kidnap victim.

Nick doesn’t sleep.

This week, Jeewon succeeded at going to bed early and waking up before sunrise to get some writing done. He wrote a play, unloaded the dishwasher, looked at the play again, made the coffee, considered a different song for the play, took a shower, and grew confident that the play was done.

Kate’s favorite time of day/night is between 4:37am and 4:53am when the sky is that eerie intense blue. She enjoys the fleeting, uneasy feeling it gives her of it being simultaneously too early and too late.

There once was a two week stretch in which Tif did not sleep more than 2 hours a night. She is always searching for a new tincture to help her fall asleep easier.
