Travel Massive Boston Relaunch Event

Plus: How to Stay Involved with Our Community, a Party Emergency Pro Tip, and Top Secret Signature Cocktail Ingredients!

Travel Massive Boston, you guys are awesome. (So are our generous sponsors, Glendalough Distillery, Hostelling International Boston Hostel, RueBaRue, and Bre-Anne Zeek of Brass Union Somerville, but more on them later!) It was really exciting to reconnect with the Boston Chapter of the world’s largest community of travel industry insiders, leaders & innovators.

Many of you who attended were joining us for the very first time! Welcome to the community. I encourage you to register on the Travel Massive Platform so that you can keep in touch with fellow members and we can keep you posted on future events. We now have a Boston chapter-specific Twitter account and a dedicated LinkedIn group, if either of those are your kind of thing.

Prior to last week, Travel Massive Boston had been quiet — zero events — for a whole year, and you came out in droves for a modestly-promoted event on a scorching hot Wednesday in August. Over 40 people from more than 25 companies showed up (companies ranged from big corporations and large nonprofits with hundreds of employees to small teams and sole proprietorships). We had members come from New Hampshire and Maine. (More like Travel Massive New England, amirite?)

The beer and wine had been in the fridge for HOURS but when you all showed up (and y’all were punctual), I reached in the fridge to serve some it was not a drinkable temperature. First I panicked, but then I remembered a throwaway party emergency tip from my brother, who happens to be a beer-drinking scientist:

throw cans or beer in a cooler with ice + add water & lots of table salt and this will “speed-chill” your drinks

It works! (If anyone at HI Boston Hostel wonders where all their table salt in the kitchen went, I have no idea.)

On to some sponsor love!

Our Gracious Hosts:

Huge thanks to Hostelling International Community Manager Norvell Watts and HI Boston Hostel. All HI Hostels (4,000 globally) are an excellent option for travelers of all ages. Their programming is awesome and amenities and staff, unrivaled. Their locations gravitate towards super-convenient city centers. No raucous guests (they’re dry unless it’s a special event!), and most locations — including Boston — have a number of private rooms with en suite bathrooms avaiable.

Brass Union in Somerville is a great place for events & staff appreciation parties.
That punch bowl used to be full.

Beer / Wine / Food:

Nars Krishnamachari’s company RueBaRue sponsored your beer, wine, and food. I encourage you to download their free vacation planning app — I can’t say enough about how user-friendly and helpful it is.

RueBaRue: If you have an iPhone, give it a spin here.

Bre-Anne Zeek of Please & Thank You Hospitality generously donated her time to prepping food and serving drinks. You can find her at Brass Union in Somerville most nights a week.

Glendalough Distillery (“Glen-da-lock”) provided double barrel Irish Whiskey for our housemade Signature Craft Cocktail: LAYOVER PUNCH (A Bre-Anne Zeek original):

  • Glendalough Double Barrel Whiskey
  • Pluot (plum/apricot hybrid) shrub
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • elderflower liqueur
  • lavender honey
  • angostura bitters

Until next time, Boston!
