As we all find ways to adapt to the challenges of the pandemic, we’re seeing the strength and resilience of the people around us. From creative ways to connect with loved ones to the outpouring of support for those on the front lines, we’re inspired each day by the solidarity shown by our community.
While we can’t see their smiles, we know they are there! Association to Benefit Children’s Education Specialist shared, “Words cannot express how grateful our families were to receive this [Choose Creativity] care package… They are so happy to have this to help them keep their kids…
Dear Friends, We are in the midst of a global pandemic with enormous disruptions and risks to our families, friends, and communities. We want to go back to what we learned in those sad, stressful, scary months after Lulu and Leo died. The inspiration of their lives and the lessons we learned after losing them still guide us today. Back in 2013, we took a photo of 4-year-old Nessie, playing on the beach alone, holding a towel as a cape on her shoulders. The photo reminded us so much of her sister Lulu. We shared that photo of Nessie on…
We’re starting off 2020 with a focus on being inventive and resourceful, and hope you’re using the Principles in your life as well! There are a lot of exciting things happening at the Fund and we wanted to give you a brief update. In January, we led a second workshop with Children’s Aid College Prep Charter School, which encouraged educators to use their creative skills to devise new lessons around the 10 Principles. They came up with some inspired ideas, including a lesson for Black History Month where students will learn about civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr…
As we wrap up 2019, we’re sharing a scrapbook of our favorite moments from our recent family workshop at Association to Benefit Children.
Authenticity was abundant as kids and their parents learned how to integrate the 10 Principles of Creativity in their lives. It’s a joy to see parents reconnect with their creative superpowers. Our family workshops help foster a bond and develop creative confidence that parents and kids can share together.
“Two stars always seem to find me.”
It was my birthday yesterday. I want to share a goose-bump inducing story that happened to me five days earlier.
It was Saturday night and we were going to a friend’s birthday party in Brooklyn at an axe-throwing bar. We made dinner at home and ate with the kids before we headed out.
During dinner, Felix (age 5) started talking about magic. He was questioning whether magic was real or not. I said to him that I believe in magic and reminded him that with his creative superpowers (the 10 Principles of Creativity)…
We want to end the year by taking you on a virtual visit to one of our most exciting partner sites, Centro Tau in Puerto Rico. This partnership with the Ricky Martin Foundation to bring the Choose Creativity curriculum to Centro Tau means a lot to us.
Lulu had several close friends from Puerto Rico. Her friendships inspired us to learn more about the culture — we visited the island when Lulu was 4. …

On another anniversary of the terrible day we lost Lulu and Leo, we wanted to share some thoughts inspired by scenes we saw this past summer in Sonoma, California. In the fall of 2017, thousands of acres of trees, entire neighborhoods and too many lives were destroyed in the most devastating fire California has ever seen. Our hearts were breaking at the time but we felt helpless and very far away.
Seeing the devastation up close nine months later conjured a lot of emotions for us. …
“You two never made it to the top but I’m up here now for the first time, in peace, on top of the world, remembering another lifetime and thinking of you. NYC, Lulu and Leo loved you and I love you too! #EmpireStateBuilding”
I want to tell the longer story of how I ended up at the top of the Empire State Building when the verdict was announced — the verdict that decided whether the monster who murdered my 6 year old daughter Lulu and 2 year old son Leo was guilty or “insane.”
My visit to the Empire State…
“The 25th of October will always be a difficult day for us, prompting unanswerable questions like “why?” But Lulu and Leo, without physically being here, still have a way of comforting us during these emotional days. This time, they sent us a hug through a timeless song performed by musicians we truly admire.”
I want to share a special story from this past summer. I’ll start with some background. We’ve been fans of the band Pink Martini since they first performed back in 1994 at the Hollywood Bowl. Since then we have seen them perform over a dozen times. Founded…
“During that terrible time we knew that the three of us needed to make some ‘new’ family memories. We couldn’t just fall back into the old routines, activities and traditions of our former life, we needed to try out and explore new ones. Together we were inventing a new family life for ourselves. This is when ice skating came into the picture.” — Marina Krim
It was Nessie’s eighth birthday a few days ago. She had a big smile on her face the entire day and Kevin and I are really proud of that. …
