You say you are, do your employees agree??

So many claim to be a leader, they take a business title and assume a leader ship role. So of course they are now leaders correct? I’m not here to list the character traits that define a leader. I’m going basic…..what does that mean?

I’ll give you my philosophy and hope this helps people use some “common sense” in their thought process about calling themselves Leaders.

We talk about our customers having the best feedback right? We say sales is the best feedback in business correct? Well although I obviously agree with that, what are your employees saying and how do they see you as a leader?

Here’s my questions, a simple self audit:

Can you do every job that you direct your employee too do?

Do you listen or approach them on advertising/marketing ideas?

Are you the first in and last out?

For me, those 3 “self audit” questions can give you a reality check. Being humble and searching to see your self through the eyes of your employees is the goal.

I have had this conversation with many business “PRO’s”. This is what I tell them in my “common sense” solution for the truth. The responses are horrifying more then inspiring.

What I have heard from most, shows me within 30 seconds that they are not leaders. The common responses to my “self audit” questions sum up like this.

Can you do every job that you direct your employee too do?

  • No I have bigger things to do.
  • Yes, but if I have too I don’t need them.
  • Anyone can do their jobs.

Do you listen or approach them on advertising/marketing ideas?

  • No, I make the decisions.
  • What do they know about where our customers come from?
  • Bosses make decisions, employees follow what I say.

Are you the first in and last out?

  • No, that’s what I pay them for.
  • I did my time, it’s now there’s.
  • I’m the boss, they have to put in the time.

Now again, yes this I call “common sense” self audit questions. Though most of you would never act in this manner, people actually responded that way.

Even if you are the best leader you carry the traits, you self audit, you rock. I ask you one simple favor, ask your employees to answer those question about you!!

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
