I can only ever remember submitting one English essay — a short story assignment. My English teacher gave it an A, and I was pleased enough to want to write more. But that essay was inspired by two things — a Wilbur Smith novel I’d read and an idea I got from a radio series called “A twist in the tail”.

But ever since that day, I have never published anything more than blog posts. Of those, I have dozens. I also have at least two part-written books — a novella that is close to being finished (but I don’t quite know how to word the ending), and a non-fiction book that I am writing in short chapters, but it’s taking too long and I need more meat on the skeleton, so to speak.

I love writing, I just lack the discipline and the practice to get good at it.
