You may have free HBO

As an AT&T Unlimited Wireless user, you get HBO for free. Not a 7 day or 30 day free trial before they start charging you… absolutely free. Yeah, imagine my surprise as I have been with AT&T for my wireless for years and heard nothing about it.

Apparently as part of some merger/buyout (there are too many for me to keep current) HBO is now included for free if you are a subscriber.

AT&T Unlimited Plus customers will benefit from HBO included in their wireless plan as follows:

  • If you currently subscribe to HBO through an AT&T video service — DIRECTV, DIRECTV NOW or U-verse TV — HBO will now be included for no additional charge.
  • If you subscribe to an AT&T video service but not HBO, you’ll automatically receive access to the premium HBO channels as part of your wireless plan.
  • If you don’t subscribe to an AT&T video service, you can access your HBO content through the DIRECTV NOW and HBO Go apps.

If you elect to go for one of their larger packages that include local TV, sports and a ton of other channels, you get a $25/month credit on those. But the basic HBO is free.

I clicked on a link I found while paying my mobile bill and set it up. I then downloaded the app, logged in and viola! — access to a ton of HBO content. And the best part? Despite it being tied to your unlimited mobile plan (which throttles speed back after 22GB) none of this streaming counts against your data.

Check it out if you’re with AT&T.
