People I follow on Medium.com — CADs Academy

This post is going to be a bit of a cut and paste job. I’m just going through who I was following on Medium back in 2015 and checking out where they are today.

The top set will be people who’re constantly active and writing all the time, every day or week, or are involved with the community to some reasonable degree. The very bottom will be people who are mostly inactive, boring, have stopped or seem to have no consistency. At the bottom you might recognize names, or see d-list celebs, but I tried to make this about frequency, not popularity. I have a few mid-sized extras, go check them out.

This is one of the few I’ll add a comment to. This guy has very little attention and seems to be spending a lot of energy on his posts. I feel like he needs more from people. Maybe his content is crap, I don’t know.

… I’m not quite sure he should be on the picture list. Sometimes active, sometimes not. Seems to already have a following other places. Moved that audience here and is followed by some larger names. Meh.

Doesn’t have as many followers as I would expect for the activity. Then I realize she writes news or whatever, followed by news people, and works for/with Backchannel who abandoned their account. I think people are just tired of news. I know I am.

Tony deserves more

The following mid level names are those that are not committed to activity but once were, or somewhere between active and not, where they’re trailing off or something. They’re mostly popular, or were at one point. Unused potential. Also includes bigger names that transferred a following but never engaged.

so now the question is, what did I learn from this?

  1. most people who’re active on this list have 10k followers or more.
  2. The average number on the top list of followers is 45,300

Also, the range of popularity seems to climb as the following:

2k-10k — entrepreneurs, quiet, small

10k-30k — writers, active online, small business that’s not tech

30k-60k — published authors, small companies, tech based entrepreneurs, success stories backed by companies

60–100k — large companies

100k+ — mega stars wtf

I won’t write more about this unless it gets interest. Consider it catalog.
