Tech job postings are down 40% and nobody’s talking about it

Good article. No idea if there is a decrease in tech employment but there are definitely some interesting perspectives here about alternative explanations to the data such as more employees moving to independent contractor roles, bigger companies not needing job posting services, the recruiting market becoming saturated, and other possibilities.

It would be interesting to see if technology was driving these numbers down. For example, I know a guy who runs a recruiting firm with major tech companies as clients. He receives job requests directly from his client companies, scours the internet (including LinkedIn) and makes a hundred calls a day to secure job placement s— the trick for him is to find individuals who already have jobs (found through LinkedIn) but are perhaps dissatisfied with their company (information found through Glassdoor) and make them an offer (or give them something that their current employer was not).

Tech posting market competition is intense, for sure, but it may be because of technology that the numbers you are looking at are causing some of the shift. Now wouldn’t that be ironic?
