I used this technique with Spanish for about a year. I’ve since slowed my learning, but I found that Netflix was the crown jewel. All of their original shows are translated into many, many languages.
You can both listen to audio translations or just follow along with the subtitles. Personally I find it most helpful to listen in the language and the use English subtitles, but it’s a fantastic resource.
Also, they don’t offer Mandarin, but LyricsTraining was another great resource for me. It really forces your ear to pick up different words and through repetition my Spanish significantly improved.
