Thanks, Patty. I think Pfeffer’s work puts a necessary stake in the ground in terms of recognizing the costs of all of this. Sounds like your dad’s story is a good reminder of something that I think many professionals (i.e. those with the benefit to have their basic needs provided for) tend to forget: our livelihoods are more than just a means of earning money, they are our some of our greatest sources of both meaning and community (which I would argue is really what we collectively need to be solving for when it comes to work).
