The calendar may have only just flipped to August, but recent developments in the college basketball world have sent fans, media and probably coaches alike into a tizzy.
With the deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft fast approaching, there were still a number of decisions to be made that could significantly tip the scales in the Big Ten.
And tip they did!
In just a matter of days, the vibe around the conference went from “yeah, there should be some solid teams from top to bottom” to “gear up for war, this league is going to be a bloodbath”…
A wise man once said that the best time to start a sports blog is in the middle of the global pandemic in which the immediate future of the sport you intend to cover remains rife with uncertainty.
HOWEVER, a wiser man also said that the best time to start a sports blog is when free time is at an all-time high and to do things that make you happy.
So here we are.
Welcome to the Big Ten Hoops Pulse!
This site is going to be an outlet that covers Big Ten basketball from the eyes of a fan…
It’s been a busy week at The Day Job so this week’s Friday Five might seem a little sloppy.
However, you love me enough to click this link and you should care about my self esteem and emotional well-being to keep reading.
Anywho, I took Dax to my parents over the weekend, which delivered some great content.
There are few things I appreciate more in this world than a nice Cold One. When that first sip of suds hits your lips? Absolute euphoria.
A tweet made the rounds earlier this week with a simple premise: what are some good…
Each week, the Power Rankings will order the contestants by the likelihood that they’ll be the next contestant voted out.
When the dust settled after the opening wave of adrenaline subsided and the champagne glasses were out of the picture, it was only seconds before the 20 Survivor winners sent the game into overdrive.
Modern Survivor has seen the game develop into an all-gas and no brakes style of play, but putting 20 of the best to ever do it in the game all at once took it to new levels.
On the Sele tribe, Boston Rob and Parvati somehow…
Good morning and welcome back to Friday Five!
It’s been a long, busy week trying to appease the shareholders amidst a flurry of hellacious weather, but it’s a good day to have a good day. So let’s make today a good one.
Last week’s column gained a little bit more traction than the first rendition, so at the current rate of growth I should have the most popular column on the web by roughly 2045. …
Come on in guys!
After a string of seasons that could best be described as underwhelming, Survivor is bringing out the big guns.
It’s been a long time coming — especially for the superfan community — but the long-anticipated all winners season has arrived. Survivor’s 40th season in its 20th year on the air (which is an astonishing run for a TV show, especially a reality one like Survivor) features one of the most loaded casts in the show’s history.
We’ve seen various renditions of All-Star seasons with various monikers: Fan Favorites, Heroes & Villains, and Game Changers. …
Happy Friday and welcome back to Friday Five!
In the upset of the century, this column is back for a second consecutive week. They said we couldn’t do it. They were wrong. This high-powered content machine cannot be reigned in by the doubts of unenlightened.
We’ll get to the topics, but as is customary now (I did it once and I’m rolling with it as Being A Thing), here’s a picture of my dog to get us started that I’m going to use as…
Good morning/afternoon/evening/whenever the hell you’re reading this, and welcome to Friday Five!
[a raucous onlooker shouts from the crowd]
“What’s Friday Five?”
Great question, loyal reader and consumer of semi-frequent pieces of eloquent, thought provoking content like this very piece. Friday Five is an idea for a weekly piece that I will ultimately punt on doing three weeks in because I’m a sucker for coming up with ideas for recurring series to write before realizing I don’t have the mental bandwidth to generate fresh content on a weekly basis, but the gist is that it’s just a space for me…
The cold winter months of January and February lead to college basketball fans spending most nights and weekends on their couch flipping through channels in search of the best game to watch on a given day.
This can be a difficult endeavor fans of the Big Ten, and an even tougher one for those that aren’t quite as acclimated to the conference’s style of play, which can best be described as a basketball/wrestling hybrid sport.
As a seasoned Big Ten Basketball “Appreciator”, I’m here to help.
Welcome to the Big Ten Basketball Watchability Index.

For the second consecutive season, Indiana’s basketball season finds itself at a turning point as tension around the program begins to bubble up to the surface.
Through 14 games last season, the Hoosiers entered the new calendar year with a good but not great non-conference resume and a 12–2 record that included a perfect 3–0 start to Big Ten play. This year, the Hoosiers are 11–3 with just a 1–2 record in Big Ten play and are coming off of two consecutive performances that featured significant second half stretches in which the wheels completely fell off.
