My Tragedy Is Better Than Your Tragedy
Nathaniel Mueller

It’s like talking to that friend that always has to “one up” you on everything you say. Everything is a competition now, especially with the dominant presence of social media. Now you can see EXACTLY what others are grieving or distraught about. I feel there are certain people who play this as a game for attention though. It’s like social munchausen syndrome with their daily tragedy.

I know I went a little off topic of where this article was taking it, but to steal a a term from James Altucher, there’s so much “Tragedy-Porn” out there I’ve become desensitized to most of it. When something horrible happens to children or animals I view it as tragic. When it happens to adults I find myself much less empathetic.
