Based in Austin, Texas, Christine Messina owns and operates The Candy Jar at the Hill Country Galleria and offers a 2,000 item lineup of confections, chocolates, and sno balls. The Candy Jar’s Parlor Room also makes possible fun-filled events from birthdays to holiday gatherings. Christine Messina maintains a strong presence in the Austin community and is active with the Blanton Museum of Art, which offers a multicultural perspective on the arts.

Recent Blanton exhibitions include Fixing Shadows: Contemporary Peruvian Photography, 1968–2015 and Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties. The 18th century Spanish artist Francisco Goya was the focus of Goya: Mad Reason, which focused on his iconic black and white prints. These include psychologically rich Tauromaquia depictions of bullfights, which were set within a gallery designed to mimic the prevalent “sun and sand” motifs seen in the artwork.

The highlight of the exhibition was the 80 print Disasters of War series. Accurately depicting the horrors of war, the unsettling series was only published by the Royal Academy in Madrid decades after Goya’s death.
