Meteor doesn’t play well with Socket.io because Meteor doesn’t need Socket.io.
Meteor already serves updates over the wire using websocket connections, so Socket.io is redundant.
My best advice as a starting developer would be to be sure to research a platform before you decide to use it so that you fully understand its advantages and disadvantages.

No offense, but choosing Meteor then trying to integrate Socket.io shows a lack of understanding as to why you’re using Meteor in the first place.
