What I can see

Browner than nature — mahogany

Meets burnt umber (my favourite

Crayon for its name)

Dirt-frosted corners where

Cleaner’s rags don’t

Reach. Untouchable too:

Cracked cream walls,

Olive shutters barred by

Rust, thin skein of

Black wires.

In the empty lot a

Black tomcat scales the

Green fortress walls of a

Dumpster beneath the

Ash-white sky.
