part 9?

Birthday cake frap. Probably wasn’t worth it.

So I ruined my diet in the last week or two by eating out (Korean fried chicken did not disappoint) and eating my parent’s cooking and baking sweets and staying up for school stuff -> gorging myself at midnight :c

But my parents are leaving for Berlin in a few days and they’ll be gone for about a month. So I’ll have to wake up at 6am to go to school probably, just to beat the morning rush. Meh. I’ll try to restart my diet after they leave.

On a side note I talked to my parents some more about moving out for uni. Their gut reaction was ofc “no you can’t wtf” but after discussing for some long (wastefully long…) periods of time, I think they are slightly open to the idea now, as long as I’m staying in UBC housing, no room-roommates, and single gender floors…

Man they don’t realize how much of a pain it is to bus to/from my house to places. There’s no grocery stores nor restaurants in a reasonable walking distance, and my sister probably has to use the car everyday for work (working full time + classes for whatever goddamn reason, she wants me to cook for her but I’m not gonna… she’s quite picky), with my parents probably using the other car. Coordinating stuff would just mean I have to discuss with them and give them my whole schedule everyday, and the idea of that makes me very irritated.

Just a photo from one of my frequent 30 minute waits for the 29 bus…

Being alive is suffering. Anyways, I actually haven’t cooked any meals since my last post. Wow, that just highlights how much junk food I’ve been eating actually. My friend bought me a bag of minidonuts at PNE yesterday and I ate the whole thing. Feelsgoodbadman. BUT FREE FOOD. Dude I realized those minidonuts taste like pancake batter. So fluffy and everything. God, I love pancakes. I have too many weaknesses.

I did however make desserts that I ate way too much of :(

This is appelsinsnitter from Fika. It’s a swedish cookie. Filling was made with almonds/oranges, and topped with a bit of icing. I think I rolled the dough out too thin cause they were really easy to break. It was better after chilling, but not strong enough that I would transport them without worrying, if that makes sense. Tasted good though, even my parents liked them.

Uh then I made very basic lemon cakes on whim at Riajuu’s place, from the GoT cookbook. I overcooked them so they got stuck on paper… Oops. I took home the second batch, which I promptly ate, so you don’t get a proper plated picture :P

I used cold butter so the cakes didn’t really spread properly, and I think I added too much sugar because the crust was kinda hard/sugary tasting. Oh well, I’m still a beginner.

Onwards to today’s…

What are these white, pasty, sons of bitches?

Raspberry marscapone vatrushkas from Crumb. A Russian pastry. Kind of looks like egg tarts to me since it’s filled with custard and all but it’s still bread, not a tart. Cheese is expensive :/ about $9 for the amount of marscapone I used to make these 6.

Managed not to eat one, put them in the freezer as soon as I was done. I think I will serve them at my party actually. We’ll see how well pastries thaw :)
