Introducing Citizen Communities
A new way for you to connect with the people around you and keep your community safe.
This week, we’re introducing new features that will let you connect with fellow users in the Citizen safety network — helping you better protect each other. You can access these features on the latest version of our iOS app (0.10.0). Community features are coming soon to Android.
Nearby Users
Until now, the app’s main screen has been dedicated to recent and trending incidents in your area, some of which might leave you feeling unsettled. But what hasn’t been clear is that within Citizen’s safety network, there are often another 1,000+ users nearby who may know what’s happening — or may even be able to help. We’re now showing you the density of nearby Citizen users to connect you to those around you.
The number of nearby users (in green) updates in real time to show how many people will be notified if a crime or other emergency happens nearby.
Community Info
When you open the app, you’ll see the name of the community you’re currently in paired with the number of Citizen users within its boundaries. Tap the neighborhood name to get more information on local incidents and statistics. You can also chat with fellow community members here.
Users Active in Community indicates the number of Citizen users who are active within the boundaries shown on the map.
Incidents in Last 30 Days shows the number of incidents that have appeared on Citizen within the last 30 days.
Incidents with Live Video shows the number of incidents with user-contributed video over the last 30 days.
The arrows next to each stat tell you if the stat is increasing or decreasing month-over-month.
Help increase safety in the communities you care about — just tap “Build” to invite your neighbors, family, and friends and help add strength in numbers. From the community page, swipe left to chat with other users who are nearby.
Our vision is to build a global safety network of people protecting each other, and this brings us one step closer. Stay tuned for more community features!
