21 Days of Jesus, A Devotional

by Pastor Juston Warthen

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God — and righteousness and sanctification and redemption — ” - ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭1:30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

What does it mean for someone to walk in wisdom?

In Hebrew, wisdom is defined as having skill, shrewdness or prudence. A close examination of this definition suggests that wisdom may not be all encompassing: someone could have skill in one area of their lives but lack it in others. For example, someone could have skill in fishing but not be shrewd in managing finances. So how can we walk in wisdom?

Scripture expressly states that:

“The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”

- ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭11:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Here, we learn that, more than skill, shrewdness or prudence, wisdom is a spirit. You may be asking, what does it mean to have a spirit of wisdom?

A quick study of Jesus’ life shows that, just as Isaiah prophesied 700 years prior, He was fully equipped to handle every situation He encountered. He wasn’t deficient in supplying what was required for Him to fulfill His God ordained purpose. Here are a few illustrations of how Jesus exhibited wisdom:

Skill: Jesus demonstrates skill through His ability to minister the scriptures with understanding so that all glorified Him. (Luke 4:15).

Shrewdness: He shows shrewdness in His response to the hypocritical questioning of the Pharisees and Herodians concerning tax paying. (Mark 12:13–17).

Prudence: Jesus proves His prudence by foreseeing the devil’s plan against Peter and praying for His restoration. (Luke 22:31–33).

Jesus was perfect in all of His ways. What does that mean for you and me? How can we walk in wisdom?

When Jesus was asked by a group of people, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”‬ Jesus’ response was simple, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” (‭‭John‬ ‭6:28–29‬). Here, we can see that the only requirement is to believe in the One who is wisdom. (1 Corinthians 1:30). It’s really that simple! Jesus paid the price for you and me to experience the fullness of life.

Everything that we need is found in Him.

Today, choose to allow Jesus to be your wisdom!
