How to be the very best version of you……

Often people come to me with no clue where to start; usually feeling down about themselves and looking for quick fixes. I’m only too happy to help them out with the direction they need in their training and nutrition, alongside providing them with the mental boost they need to get started……however quick fixes just aren’t my style, so you won’t find any of that here!

Life experience so far has taught me that to create the very best version of yourself it is important to find a balance in 4 key areas of your life………..

Changing your mind-set can be difficult……believe me when I say that I have had my fair share of low points; the kids are screaming so I'm screaming or the kids are crying so I'm crying, you get the picture!!! However the important thing is how we deal with them. The connection between body and mind is a strong one, so keep with the mantra that you are going to look for the positive’s and be a success and your body will just follow suit. Keep a clear vision of your goals, and keep them in your minds eye, getting one step closer every day.

Managing stress and getting a good nights sleep is so important. I know sleep often comes at the bottom of the list once the ‘to do list’ is done…..although the number of times I've gone to bed an hour later trying to catch up on things is countless and I have definitely not felt any better for it (usually still ending up with an unfinished list!).

The important thing to remember is that a lack of sleep and increased levels of stress disturb the hormones that control weight loss, so getting these under control is vital. By reducing clutter and chaos in your life you should find that stress levels naturally reduce (as will your waist circumference) and sleep quality improves…!

Balance is key, and by packing each meal full of nutrition and goodness, alongside having the right balance of carbohydrates, fats and protein (which will be dependent on your goals i.e. weight loss, muscle gain, endurance etc.) will keep your body in the zone!

By learning to make what you eat nutritious, simplistic, lean, time effective and nice to look at, then it’s not going to be a diet, just a way of life from here on in. Forming positive habits is the way forward and if you need to lose weight live by these principles 100% of the time, until you reach your goals. When your transformation is complete then 80% of the time will cut it, to make sure your results don’t disappear.

Quite simply you need to move more. A great starting point is ensuring that you are hitting your 10,000 steps a day; this is easy to measure either using your phone, or a smart watch/fitbit of some description. Leading an active lifestyle is the way forward and ensuring you get up and do something everyday no matter how short it maybe, is important and fantastic. It will also reduce your risk of developing certain diseases and conditions in the future; leading to a longer and healthier life.

Some days will be lighter and others may challenge you a little more; listen to your body and think about what’s going on in your life that day! Finding activities you enjoy is half the battle and the choice available is endless; I absolutely love HIIT training as it’s quick and fit’s in around my family but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Making a promise to yourself to become a more active individual will mean that you hold yourself accountable for what you do and what you go on to achieve…….

FINALLY, if you can get these 4 area’s in to sharp focus and become more mindful of them from day to day; making changes where necessary, then you really will be living your life as the best possible version of yourself.
