PRODUCTIVITY IS A MISERABLE BITCH: PART 1 — FEAR

Truth is a difficult pill to swallow because often the struggle of failure is too real for people to accept. I’ll say this again: Productivity is a miserable bitch. We’ve all lived through those moments where feet up on the couch w/ a bag of Doritos seems like the only solution towards finding true happiness.

Being goal oriented is also a miserable bitch.

We’ve all experienced those times during a diet where we just said “fuck it,” and consumed every ounce of that (INSERT FLAVOR HERE) Ben & Jerry’s in the freezer. Come to think of it… Actually, just about everything that has to do with managing ones individual successes (and failures) is — you guessed it — a miserable bitch.

OKAY… SO EVERYTHING SUCKS. BUT WHY?

Who the fuck really knows, but from my own life experience it’s hard to ignore these two things:

  • Fear of the Known/Unknown: The ability to doubt oneself, without question, at every little turn regardless of whether or not one has comprehensive knowledge to successfully accomplish the task at hand.
  • That “Put it Off” Mentality: The ability to fully understand exactly what it is that oneself needs to accomplish the task but instead utilizes the worst possible mental prioritization tactics possible and chooses “Netflix & Doritos” over “Cardio & Spinach” — every time.

IS BEING PRODUCTIVE DIFFICULT?

Fuck no. That’s the saddest reality of it. It’s not even remotely difficult to be productive; it just isn’t. There are plethora of resources available via the internet to help you become more productive but I’m just going to focus on embracing fear.

Whether it be in your personal life or professional life, you’ve probably found yourself — at least once — in a situation where you were hesitant to do something as a result of being afraid to fail. Am I right? Yes. Don’t lie.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU REALIZE YOU ARE AFRAID TO FAIL?

Accept it as a challenge and move the fuck on. I know that might sound ridiculous but let me explain. One key step in the right direction towards being more productive is simply a matter of conditioning yourself to accept that failure is inevitable.

You were born to fail; you’re going to continue to fail, and you’re going to do so often.

Each day that you breathe in air, the likelihood that you fuck something up — albeit significant or not — is alarmingly high.

But that’s the beauty of it all. It’s totally okay to fail. You’re supposed to fuck up. Mistakes are how we learn. Mistakes are how we grow individually, and also how societies/organizations/corporations progress.

There’s no way Edison passed an electric current through a coil and created light on the first try. There’s no way that Lebron James first few dunks as a kid were of All-star caliber. Have you seen the first iPod? That thing was fucking gross.

Okay So What’s the Point?

Honestly, I don’t think I really have a point. All I’m trying to say is that fear plays an important part in our everyday lives. The sooner that you learn to accept it, embrace it, and learn from it, the quicker you’ll be able to turn fear into action — and then turn action into success.

I know… blah, blah, blah, motivation, blah, blah. I’m not the best seller of inspirational speak. But if you establish goals, set fear aside and accept failure as a possible outcome, you’ll likely be more productive in your efforts towards reaching that end goal. Deuces.
