Marley, I hear you. My intent in writing this essay was twofold. I wanted to let people know who were in the burdensome process of coming out that yes, it difficult; yes, it’s tricky, risky, and uncertain; but on the other side is freedom and a new way of seeing yourself, the world, and you in it. There’s a lot of guilt and shame and ton of other crap that stands in the way … but people need to know that they’re not the only ones. I also wanted to let people who will or might be on the receiving end of someone’s coming out announcement that they didn’t arrive at the decision capriciously.

I hope that came across, along with a little bit of humor.
