Monica Challingsworth knows that she’s going to succeed — no matter what.
An interview with the Senior Director of Catering at Lemonade
This interview is part of Rising Stars, a weekly series from Clearpath Search profiling up-and-coming leaders who are currently playing important roles at the hottest, emerging brands.
Looking back, what advice would you give your younger self?
If I could give my younger self any advice, I would recommend writing down the things I learned along the way — like stopping to ‘enjoy the bacon’ in the morning with my family around the breakfast table — and document all of the incredible insights I was given from family and friends on how to be at peace with the world and myself.
What moment in your career are you most proud of and why?
My proudest moment working in the restaurant and hospitality profession is when I became a Century City Chamber Champion. I was nominated by a jury of my peers and broke the record for the youngest champion and for the quickest to achieve the award in under a year’s time. I still laugh and treasure the Wheaties box with my face on it!
Where do you see your career in 5 years and why?
In 5 years, I see myself as a leader of the largest catering business in the nation. We are on track to achieve this goal, and I can’t wait to look back and see what we have accomplished as a team. The Lemonade Restaurant Group is expanding rapidly and its an exciting time to be driving sales. As a team, we are hitting new highs on a daily basis and crushing expectations. Watching each person in our company fight for the better of us individually and collectively is motivating. I love to be a mentor and leader and I want to continue to help my team grow and develop both professionally and personally.
Who is an influential person in your life and why?
The most influential person in my life is my beautiful, strong mother, Darlene. No matter how tough times were, she would stand tall and keep pushing through with integrity and a smile. She taught me to always be kind, loyal and tenacious. Watching her raise two very strong children while putting herself through college, nursing school, and obtaining her MBA taught me that hard work and dedication will always persevere. She has always believed in me every step of the way and she is my voice of reason, my mirror, and my biggest fan.
What’s the one word that describes you and why?
Driven. While I might not know what my future is going to bring, it doesn’t scare me. Somewhere deep inside my heart and mind, I know that, no matter what happens, I will succeed. This allows me to take risks, meet new challenges, stake claims, and deliver what I set my mind to. Tomorrow’s opportunities invigorate me.
