We were fortunate enough to spend ten days in Istanbul this summer. We arrived within days of the botched coup but the resilance and spirit of the Turkish people was very much in evidence.

In conversations with various individuals we swiftly learned that most Turks had a great deal of disdain for Erdogan and blamed him for the country’s woes. I wrote a short article on Erdogan’s attempt to destroy Ataturk’s legacy of a secular, progressive Turkey and I think it helps sum up the state of the country…and what lies ahead:
