This Is Why It’s Almost Impossible To Write For Fun When You’re Building A Company

I love to write. But I’m building a company, again.
I’ve found it’s impossible for me to write as much as I want when I’m working 12+ hours a day to build a company. I’ve built small businesses before. But the company I’m building now is a new scale for me. And it keeps me from writing for fun as much as I’d like.
Maybe you can relate if you love to write as much as I do. Wearing seven hats as a business owner, leader, or manager is not easy. It seems we’re all tasked with “doing more” in less time. Maybe you find your brain (attention) being sucked into a supposed smart phone, and I know there’s a high cost.
I simple can’t write as much whenI’m building a company. So here I am before my day ramps up, lamenting how much I miss “you” here, and anywhere else I love to write, and share what’s on my mind.
Being a leader entails being a reader. Which is a good thing because the best writers I know are also prolific readers, learners, and students driven by a certain purpose they found long ago. Truth is, my reading has suffered lately, too.
Good news is, I’m “on purpose” still. My purpose is to “empower” others. I do this in many ways. Writing is one of them. But lately, I’ve been writing massive new website, blog, email, online training programs powered by learning objectives, new social media posts, and leading, managing my team. Kinda fun, but not like this.l
Even though I may not be able to write creatively as much as I’d like, at least I still get to write, but in a different way, more for work than fun.
This, to me, is fun.
Why?
Because I get to hear myself talk, then I type, then edit in a mostly-lame way, then hit the “Publish” button, and hope as least one of you kind find a kernel of usefulness in my joy of writing for fun.
Plus, I can’t sing, dance, draw, or paint. So writing it is.
Have a great day. I miss being here!
