Author has a point, but there are also personal motivation at play: I want to learn a cool distributed scalable whatever framework because then I am raising my qualification — and that’s good for the company and my career. It may or may not be good for the project.
Hadoop is an ugly goblin, but Kafka and some other solutions are not that difficult/complicated. So if you are going to learn a real-time messaging system, it’s a solid choice even if you don’t need the scale.
