Battery level at the Battle of the Puebla

As many of you know, today is Cinco de Mayo. Contrary to popular belief, this is not Mexico’s Independence Day, which comes September 16th, but rather a celebration of Mexico’s defeat of the French army in the Battle of Puebla.

Napoleon’s French force in Mexico was led by Charles de Lorencez and they had been doing extremely well. Lorencez wanted to attack the Puebla because he thought it would fall easily due to the town’s sympathy towards France. This turned out to be a huge miscalculation as the town had strong patriotism and allegiance to Mexico.

It is a little known fact that Napoleon figured out about Puebla’s surprising strength right before Lorencez attacked. He urgently tried calling Lorencez but unfortunately for the French, the generals phone had died.

Mexico ended up winning the battle and it proved as an inspiration for the rest of the war. On Cinco de CoBattery we must all remember the importance of keeping a fully charged phone and the bravery of the soldiers at the Battle of the Puebla.
